What a great weekend. I was determined to stay CALM and ENJOY the festivities...however doing food shopping late on Christmas Eve didn't make things easy but I conquered!
The children have their little traditions and we tend to ride on their enthusiasm for them! On Christmas Eve, once rooms have been cleaned [because Santa doesn't visit untidy rooms!!!]...we read scriptures before sending the children to find new pj's, slippers and a homemade toiletry bag filled with toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorants etc...you get the picture! It's amazing how excited they get over it all! Here is Brucie in his 'onesee' He loves it! We all got such a laugh when he walked into the room wearing it!

In true fashion I rolled into bed about 3ish on Christmas morning to hear Brucie sneak out of bed to see if Santa had filled the stocking! just after he climbed back into bed I heard movements from Natasha's room! honestly!!! At least I managed a couple of hours sleep before the children asked when we were getting up! Usually on Christmas morning we hear loads of 'wow, look what I got' before children come jumping on our bed all eager to show us what Santa had left. This year, Natasha and Brucie thought they would give us a Christmas treat by taking care of the younger ones to allow us a longer nap in bed. It was so sweet of them, but oh how I missed being woken with the excitement early morning.
I love the fact that Christmas was on a Sunday and we got to go to church. Singing the carols was lovely and really added to the Christmas spirit! The children were up early enough to open presents before we left. I don't know how we managed to open everything and get ready in time to leave. We were even on time for the start of the church service too!

The afternoon was filled with just as much excitement as Bruce set up all those gadgets and toys that needed setting up and putting together. For the first time in years I refused to committ to a time that dinner would be ready by so we didn't eat till late, late afternoon, but that was ok! And the evening I sat back and just enjoyed listening to the children playing in perfect harmony!!!
Boxing day, Nana June - Layton's great grandma (from his birth family) came to spend the day with us. Bruce's parents and sister were coming but have been poorly, so stayed home. Nana June came bearing gifts. she had made Layton a beautiful Christmas patchwork quilt, a real treasure. Layton loved having her with us and would often go to her for a cuddle and quick story before toddling off to play with his cars again. June had also brought him a new bike, which he loves. He was constantly wanting to go on it and ride around. We have been so blessed to enjoy a wonderful weekend together.
